Gordon Emery

Jiu-Jitsu Teacher

Gordon began martial arts in 2002 with Wing Chun Kung Fu. In 2004, he stumbled across a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seminar with UFC legend Royce Gracie. He quickly got the bug and couldn’t stop practicing Jiu-Jitsu at the local club run by instructor Lamonte Tyler. He enjoyed it so much that a year later he started Judo to help different parts of his game. Then in 2007 he began training Muay Thai under Jun Ortega.

He opened Charlottesville Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2008 and has since made a living teaching his Jiu-Jitsu. Opening the academy has allowed training all week long. Focusing his attention, Gordon has been able to constantly improve the training and instruction methods used. Since then Gordon and his academy have earned a reputation for great instruction and training as well as quality environment that is continuing to evolve.

Gordon is a Black Belt under Sixth Degree Black Belt Julio Fernandez and is the Main Jiu-Jitsu Instructor at Cville BJJ. He is also certified as a US Grappling Referee with First Aid and CPR training.

Mike Allen

Muay Thai Coach

Mike started martial arts in 1996 with Jeet Kune Do. As a member of the armed forces, he was taught jiu-jitsu. In 2004, he began training Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai with a number of instructors around the Central Virginia area earning his purple belt. In 2008, he found his home at Cville BJJ.

John McCune

Kids & Juniors Coach

John began studying Jiu-Jitsu with Gordon in 2007 and Muay Thai with Jun Ortega in 2008. He has since then earned the rank of purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu. He has been a dedicated student of Cville BJJ since he started and has helped tremendously in expanding our academy and programs.

Dennis Abry

Yoga Instructor

Dennis started martial arts in the late 1980s with Tae Kwon Do, and trained in it and western kickboxing for over 15 years. Knee injuries from marathon running resulted in him giving up martial arts for several years. He found Ashtanga Yoga to be excellent at recovering from his injuries. He was able to strengthen his body with the practice so well that he could train in Martial arts again without problems. Finding a home at CVille BJJ in 2010 and earned his Blue belt in 2012.
