Muay Thai Boxing

Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand. Muay Thai has also proven very effective outside the ring and has been embraced enthusiastically by practitioners of a variety of self-defense, sporting, military and law enforcement activities. It has become world renowned for its simplicity and effectiveness.

When we opened our school in 2008 we were primarily a grappling school. The Muay Thai striking skills were a perfect compliment to the Jiu-Jitsu training we were already doing. We wanted our students to have the ability to round their skill out to all ranges of unarmed combat. Muay Thai develops stand up fighting skills from long, short and close ranges. With the simple mechanics of Muay Thai even a small fighter can develop devastating power in their kicks.

Muay Thai uses all “8-limbs” which consists of Fists, Elbows, Knees and Shins/Feet to strike with. The use of the clinch is allowed and is a favored position for Thai fighters to throw devastating knees and elbows at close range.

Classes are 60 minutes long with a 30 minute optional open mat afterward for stretching, hitting the heavy bag or sparring with fellow students.

If you are a new student coming for a trial class we have some loaner equipment for you to use. Members are required to purchase their own 16oz. boxing or Muay Thai gloves, Muay Thai grade professional shin guards and hand wraps for the regular class. A mouthpiece, groin protection and instructors approval are required for sparring. We have all this equipment for sale at the gym for your convenience and we can advise you on what you need.
